While it might be just another walk in the park for its four-legged participants, itll be a step toward keeping as many animals as possible from being euthanized when the For Paws Rescue hosts its Rescue Carnival this weekend at Town Creek Park.

Now in its third year, the rescue carnival raises both funds and awareness concerning the numerous strays, rescues from other humane societies and animals displaced by storms that the Auburn nonprofit cares for.

May 6-12, 2012 is National Pet Week and the theme chosen by the Auxiliary to the American Veterinary Medical Association is “Healthy Pets Make Happy Homes.”

Each year the Auxiliary sponsors a poster contest around the year’s theme. This year’s winner, Stephanie Jensen, depicts a whimsical home filled with children and happy family pets. While the painting is charming and deserving of accolades, the scene made me think hard about pets and families.

Crews worked to knock down flames at a home early Friday morning.

A neighbor told 10TVs Shayla Reaves that she saw light shining through her window when she spotted the fire at the home, located along East Mill Street, at about 2 am

When firefighters arrived, they found the front and back of the home fully engulfed, Reaves reported. At least 30 firefighters from four agencies were called to fight the blaze.

Investigators said that no one was inside the home at the time of the fire. Family members said that they were working to find two family pets.

Fire investigators were working to determine what caused the fire.

The growing popularity of the caravan site meant holidaying families were playing near grieving animal lovers who had just scattered the ashes of their family pets.

Mr Faulkner, who founded the business 13 years ago after the death of a beloved family pet, said the move could happen as early as this year in a bid to improve facilities for grieving families and expand the site which had seen a growth in business of more than 30% last year alone.

The crematorium is at a great spot but it is right next to the caravan site, which isnt ideal, said Mr Faulkner, who said the site had become the biggest pet crematorium in the North of England.

BALTIMORE (WJZ) A raid on a West Baltimore home turns up more than the drugs police were expecting. They also broke up a dog fighting ring. WJZ digs deeper into dog fighting with some surprising results.

WJZ has learned that these dogs are more like thoroughbreds their records are kept and tracked, and if successful, their offspring are sold. To keep these dogs in shape, often teenagers are sent out to steal family pets for just a couple of bucks.
